Microsoft Tech Support Phone Number

Microsoft is a major technology company that sells software, electronics and computers around the world. As one of the largest companies in the world, it isn't surprising that its tech support department gets a lot of calls every day.

Why Do People Call Microsoft Tech Support?

Customers call Microsoft tech support for a range of reasons, including:

  • Help with installing software or setting up equipment or a device
  • Questions about how to operate software or a device
  • Troubleshooting problems with Microsoft products
  • Assistance with renewing software subscriptions
  • Assistance with filing a warranty claim
  • Referrals to authorized technicians and providers of repair services

Best Practices for Calling Microsoft Tech Support

Microsoft prefers it when customers begin their support requests through the Microsoft website. Once on the "Contact Us" page, you will be presented with a menu of products and services.

Click on the icon that represents your product or service category and you'll be offered a dialog box and asked to type in your problem or question. From there, you'll be given some self-help suggestions and the offer of getting in touch with Microsoft via a telephone callback or live chat.

When requesting a callback from Microsoft, be sure that you have information about your product or service handy. This information could include your order number or the serial number for your product. You should also have pen and paper available so that you can take notes during your call. Manage software purchased with Microsoft Products

 Applies to

  • Windows 10
  • Windows 10 Mobile

Software purchased with the Microsoft Products and Services Agreement (MPSA) can now be managed in Microsoft Store for Business. This allows customers to manage online software purchases in one location.

There are a couple of things you might need to set up to manage MPSA software purchases in Store for Business.

To manage MPSA software in Microsoft Store for Business

  1. Sign in to the Microsoft Store for Business.
  2. Click Manage, and then click My Organization.
  3. Click Connected tenants to see purchasing accounts and the tenants that they are connected to.

Add tenant

The tenant or tenants that are added to your purchasing account control how you can distribute software to people in your organization. If there isn't a tenant listed for your purchasing account, you'll need to add one before you can use or manage the software you've purchased. When we give you a list to choose from, tenants are grouped by domain.

To add a tenant to a purchasing account

  1. Sign in to the Microsoft Store for Business.
  2. Click Manage, and then click My Organization.
  3. Click Connected tenants, and then click the ellipses for a purchasing account without a tenant listed.
  4. Click Choose a tenant, and then click Submit.

If you don't see your tenant in the list, you can add the name of your tenant

To add the name of your tenant

  1. On Add a tenant, click Don't see your tenant?.
  2. Enter a domain name, and then click Next, and then click Done.

You'll need to get permissions for the admin that manages the domain you want to add. We'll take you to Business Center Portal where you can manage permissions and roles. The admin will need to be the Account Manager.

Add global admin

In some cases, we might not have info on who the global admin is for the tenant that you select. It might be that the tenant is unmanaged, and you'll need to identify a global admin. Or, you might only need to share account info for the global admin.

If you need to nominate someone to be the global admin, they need sufficient permissions:

  • someone who can distribute software
  • in Business Center Portal (BCP), it should be someone with Agreement Admin role

To add a global admin to a tenant

We'll ask for a global admin if we need that info when you add a tenant to a purchasing account. You'd see the request for a global admin before returning to Store for Business.

  • On Add a Global Admin, click Make me the Global Admin, and then click Submit. -or-
  • On Add a Global Admin, type a name in Invite someone else, and then click Submit.

How to talk a person at Account Microsoft Billing?

The problem is a simple one:

1. There was a withdrawal made, by Microsoft, from my company bank account (not credit card, it was a direct debit from our account), which is NOT part of our company 365 Business subscription.  This has been asked, answered, and verified by a number of MS support staff.  There is no record of this payment when the support team look from within my Office 365 account.  I believe them.

2. This payment definitely was taken by Microsoft.

3. I own a small business (couple of people), and neither myself nor my colleagues used our company bank account to purchase Office 365 Personal or otherwise.  I have checked mine (the MS Support staff wanted to be sure), I haven't checked my colleagues, but I've asked, and they've answered, several times.

4.  The money definitely left my company bank account.

5.  The value isn't much, but a) I like puzzles, b) I want to make sure there isn't any fraud going on, and c) it is an incorrect withdrawal and should be corrected.

6.  If the reference on the bank transfer is to believed, it was for an Office 365 Personal account.  I would love to know who the owner of this account is.

What is Azure cost management + Billing?

By using the Microsoft cloud, you can significantly improve the technical performance of your business workloads. It can also reduce your costs and the overhead required to manage organizational assets. However, the business opportunity creates a risk because of the potential for waste and inefficiencies that are introduced into your cloud deployments. Azure Cost Management + Billing is a suite of tools provided by Microsoft that help you analyze, manage, and optimize the costs of your workloads. Using the suite helps ensure that your organization is taking advantage of the benefits provided by the cloud.

You can think of your Azure workloads like the lights in your home. When you leave to go out for the day, are you leaving the lights on? Could you use different bulbs that are more efficient to help reduce your monthly energy bill? Do you have more lights in one room than are needed? You can use Azure Cost Management + Billing to apply a similar thought process to the workloads used by your organization.

With Azure products and services, you only pay for what you use. As you create and use Azure resources, you’re charged for the resources. Because of the deployment ease for new resources, the costs of your workloads can jump significantly without proper analysis and monitoring. You use Azure Cost Management + Billing features to:

  • Conduct billing administrative tasks such as paying your bill
  • Manage billing access to costs
  • Download cost and usage data that was used to generate your monthly invoice
  • Proactively apply data analysis to your costs
  • Set spending thresholds
  • Identify opportunities for workload changes that can optimize your spending

Understand Azure Billing

Azure Billing features are used to review your invoiced costs and manage access to billing information. In larger organizations, procurement and finance teams usually conduct Microsoft 365 Personal Billing tasks.

A billing account is created when you sign up to use Azure. You use your billing account to manage your invoices, payments, and track costs. You can have access to multiple billing accounts. For example, you might have signed up for Azure for your personal projects. So, you might have an individual Azure subscription with a billing account. You could also have access through your organization's Enterprise Agreement or Microsoft Customer Agreement. For each scenario, you would have a separate billing account.

Billing accounts

The Azure portal currently supports the following types of billing accounts:

  • Microsoft Online Services Program: An individual billing account for a Microsoft Online Services Program is created when you sign up for Azure through the Azure website. For example, when you sign up for an Azure Free Account, account with pay-as-you-go rates or as a Visual studio subscriber.

  • Enterprise Agreement: A billing account for an Enterprise Agreement is created when your organization signs an Enterprise Agreement (EA) to use Azure.

  • Microsoft Customer Agreement: A billing account for a Microsoft Customer Agreement is created when your organization works with a Microsoft representative to sign a Microsoft Customer Agreement. Some customers in select regions, who sign up through the Azure website for an account with pay-as-you-go rates or upgrade their Azure Free Account may have a billing account for a Microsoft Customer Agreement as well.

Why is Microsoft 365 family subscription is better than Microsoft 365 personal

Microsoft 365 used to be an enterprise bundle that brought together the best of Office 365, Windows 10, and Enterprise Mobility + Security (EMS), but with new packages for consumers now the new Family and Personal plans include plenty of Microsoft services for regular users including Office 365, Teams, Skype calls Microsoft Editor and more.

However, both the subscriptions are made for different people and there are minor differences in the features you will be getting with each subscription. Here are some of the key differences between the Family and Personal plans:

  • The number of people- The most significant difference between Microsoft 365 Family Subscription and Personal is the number of people allowed on each subscription. Microsoft 365 Personal, as the name suggests is for a single person. It can be installed on one machine and can be used by a single person.
Microsoft 365 Family, on the other hand, allows up to 6 installs. So, it can be installed on 6 different devices making it perfect for a family who can share the licenses and do not want to pay extra for separate licenses.
  • One Drive Storage- Both the Personal and Family come with One Drive storage. However, Personal users will get just 1 TB of storage along with their subscription which can be used by one person. Family users, on the other hand, will get 6 TB of storage which can be divided among 6 users and each getting 1 TB of storage.

How to manage your Microsoft 365 subscription?

For all Microsoft 365 subscriptions and many newer non-subscription versions of Office (since 2013 and later), your Office product has an associated account. Depending on your product, this account is usually a Microsoft account or a work or school account.

Sign in to manage Office

How to manage account microsoft billing?

A billing account is created when you sign up to try or buy Microsoft products. You use your billing account to manage your account settings, invoices, payment methods, and purchases. You can have access to multiple billing accounts. For example, you signed up for Microsoft 365 directly, or you have access to your organization's Enterprise Agreement, Microsoft Product & Services Agreement or Microsoft Customer Agreement. For each of these scenarios, you would have a separate billing account.
